5 Tips to Leverage the Power of Pinterest

Pinterest, for many brands and creators, has to be one of the most underrated and underutilized social media platforms. Standing in the shadows of social platform giants like Instagram and TikTok, the unique value ads and strengths of our favorite digital mood board often go unrecognized.

For example, Pinterest is an incredible driver of qualified web traffic. Since Pinterest is essentially a giant visual search engine, its users are often hunting for inspiration, specific items or planning future purchases - for their home, an event, or wherever life will take them. For this reason, it is an incredibly valuable tool to bring new users to your website - whether to shop, or simply become more educated in your area of expertise.

This gets lost with many of the viral trends and challenges we see on Instagram and TikTok. But! We are hoping to change that by highlighting these 5 Tips to Leverage the Powers of Pinterest.

1. Pinterest Story Pins

Incorporating Pinterest Story Pins into your strategy has been known to increase impressions and reach of your content. Doing this also doesn’t have to be a heavy lift. By repurposing content already being created for Instagram stories, TikTok, or even your brand blog, you do not need to start from scratch to make the most of this feature.

2. Collaborations with other Pinterest Accounts

Creating public shared boards or adding collaborators to current public boards is an easy way to collaborate with other accounts and increase the visibility of your content and generate brand awareness.

Whether it’s with a retail partner (like this Nordstrom x Nike board) or a content creator (such as a prominent blogger or influencer in your industry), the options are endless! Remember to keep it authentic and relevant to drive qualified engagement.

3. Promotions and Giveaways

Everyone loves a good giveaway! Whether you ask Pinners to ‘Pin to Win’ or ask for boards as entries for a chance to win, this tactic drives tons of engagement and visibility to your brand. This works well for product launches as well as seasonal campaigns.

Be sure to keep Pinterest Community Guidelines in mind when doing so.

4. Keywords

Since Pinterest is a search engine tool, it’s important for you to utilize accurate keywords in the following areas:

  • Pin captions with a 500 character limit (and the first 50 characters being most visible), be sure to include concise and accurate keywords to describe the content you’re pinning.

  • Board Names and Board Descriptions that precisely describe its contents. As nice as it would be to give every board a punny or dreamy title, for performance purposes, it’s best to stick to what the board actually contains (ie. Sunglasses for Water Sports, Style Inspiration for the Yoga Studio, etc.)

Be sure not to overlook other valuable opportunities to grab the eyes of pinners, such as Board Covers as well. Pick captivating imagery, GIFs and videos, as well as accurate descriptors and keywords every chance you can!

5. Consistency

Consistency is key, folks! There’s no real way to beat an always-on strategy. (But! There are tools that can help you with scheduling pins.)

Pinning consistently every day, throughout the day, will ensure your content is always visible in users’ Pinterest feeds. Rather than an influx of pins every month or couple of months, take some time every week, or biweekly, to schedule that next duration’s content. Schedule around promotions and upcoming campaigns, just as you would on any other social channel and don’t be afraid to repeat evergreen content. The lifespan of a pin is long, but approach a single blog post from multiple angles to increase that lifespan even further.

Implementing any of the above tips consistently should prompt an increase in engagement with your Pinterest content over time.

Happy Pinning!
